November 3, 2017
I was happy to have students back to school on Wednesday (with electricity!). I am sorry that some of our families were without electricity most of the week. Between the days off and Halloween, students were quite excited. During classroom visits the last three days, students have been engaged in a variety of activities including: discussing the sequence of events in books, identifying non-fiction features, learning about plant and animal habitats, solving math word problems using addition and subtraction, and sorting syllables.
It is a shame the weather didn't cooperate on both of the scheduled Halloween Carnival dates. A special thank you to Mrs. Towers, Mrs. Bonenfant and Mrs. McDonald for their work planning the event. Also, many thanks to the families that donated pretzels, water, cider and materials. We will save the materials for next year. We saved some of the pretzels for students that need snack, and donated the rest.
This morning we gathered for the November community meeting. I hope you will hear more about the agenda:
Greeting - Mrs. Srebnick's class shared the Macarena greeting.
Share - Mrs. Heller's class gave an update on Upcycling. We recently collected over 20 pounds of upcycling items! A friendly competition is on to see which class turns the most trash into cash.
Group Activity - We talked about how many stars are on the Respect bulletin board and how we show respect. Students turned to a partner and talked about different ways they can be respectful. Next, we focused on the Race for Education. Staff members showed students what it will look like as they walk, jog, or run around the back field. Mr. Weston demonstrated the jump rope station, Mrs. Heller inspired students to try the hula hoop station, and Mrs. Maguire and Mrs. Kelley captivated students with their dance moves for the dance station.
Morning Message - The message reiterated that respect is thinking and acting in a positive way about yourself and others. Students were encouraged to focus on being friendly, polite, honest and kind. We want Nabnasset to be a happy place for everyone.
