We were excited to meet many incoming kindergarten students during the two days of screening. Currently we have 89 students registered for kindergarten.
A huge thank you to Mrs. Mallon for organizing the Spring Spruce afternoon, and to the families that worked hard weeding and planting in the heat yesterday. We are grateful to have so much support for our special school.
Today was the final day for our Westford Academy senior interns. Nabnasset students always enjoy this experience. Our best wishes to:
Next Wednesday is the highly anticipated Superhero themed Field Day. Mr. Weston has introduced the events in PE class (Incredible Dash Relay, Spiderman's Web Parachute, Aquaman Relay and more). Once again, we have parent and Stony Brook Middle School student volunteers helping with the set up, opening ceremony, nine stations, closing ceremony, and clean up. Please prepare your superhero in the following ways:
- be sure he/she has breakfast
- apply sunscreen and bug spray
- send with a hat, water bottle, sunglasses
- be sure he/she is wearing sneakers
- remind him/her that kindness is their superpower
The t-shirts and capes will be distributed in classrooms before the opening ceremony. Please be aware that field day will be canceled if the following conditions are forecasted:
- temperatures over 90 degrees
- thunder/lightning, heavy rain
- 50% chance or greater of extended period of wet weather
Cancellations will be communicated to parents ASAP through the field day email account, this listserv, and the school website. The first rain date is Thursday, May 25th. A second rain date is scheduled for Friday, May 26th.
If you are lending a pop up tent, please drop it off on Tuesday (please label it!). All volunteer spots are full at this time.
Have you seen the information shared this week on Facebook and Twitter?
As we have discussed in previous communications, each school building within the Westford Public Schools has been tasked to learn about and practice the district safety protocol “A.L.I.C.E.” (ALERT, LOCKDOWN, INFORM, COUNTER, EVACUATE), which deals with the unlikely event of an intruder in our school.
Next week, the Nabnasset School will implement one of these routine safety drills. During previous safety drills, the staff and students here at Nabnasset have planned for and practiced the different options and possible actions outlined within the A.L.I.C.E. protocol. During the upcoming safety drill, a scenario will be provided in real time, and staff members will determine the appropriate action to take based upon their location and the location of the threat. As always, the students' job during these safety drills is to listen to and follow the directions given by the adult or adults in the room.
The upcoming drill has been planned and prepared in collaboration with Westford Public School's Resource Officer, Detective Geoffrey Pavao. Detective Pavao and at least two other police officers will be present at the school to supervise this safety drill when it takes place. Should you have any specific questions regarding this upcoming safety drill, please contact me.
I look forward to playing Bingo for Books tonight with pre-first and first grade friends. Please join us at 6:30PM.
Have a wonderful weekend.
