Thank you for joining the second trimester conference. I enjoyed seeing many families and participating in the discussions.
Thank you for supporting the Scholastic Book Fair. Mrs. Loughman will collaborate with the teachers to use the funds to purchase materials for library classes, research projects, and other curriculum projects.
We enjoyed a delicious conference night dinner. The variety of entrees and desserts were enjoyed, appreciated, and the leftovers were perfect for lunch today.
The K-5 schools are continuing the Fresh Start Garden Food Gardens started last spring in the Nab Lab. The gardens will have distinct plantings and harvests in the spring and fall. Fresh Start will install an irrigation system set on a timer that is controlled at each bed. On April 11th and 13th students may choose to plant lettuce, kale, spinach, arugula, mustard, and pea shoots during recess with a Fresh Start farmer and parent volunteers. We need volunteers! Are you available to join us during the lunch/recess periods (10:45, 11:30, 12:15, 1:00)? The farmers will make follow up visits to keep the garden beds neat and productive, and to address insect or disease damage. Two days will be scheduled in late May to harvest with students. All students will have an opportunity to sample the food
prepared in the cafeteria.
As noted on the 2016-2017 WPS calendar and on the events calendar on our webpage, April 5th is an early release day. We have a 12:20PM dismissal for a professional development afternoon. An important reminder to the parents of half day kindergarten students:
In order to achieve equity in instructional time, on the last four early release days (April 5, April 14, May 18, June 21) the kindergarten sessions will flip. The afternoon students will attend in the morning and the morning students will not have school. The morning extended day students will attend kindergarten class in the morning, and the afternoon extended day students can attend extended day in the morning.
Next week we kick off our annual Pennies for Patients fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Donation boxes for coins will be collected through April 28th.
Our district has developed a homework committee to assess our practices and review the research related to homework. It is important to us that we understand the perspectives of key stakeholders, including parents/guardians. We ask that you please take a few moments to answer eight simple questions regarding your perception of your child(ren)'s homework experience. The survey can be accessed through this link. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
The 2016-2017 Nabnasset School Yearbook ordering information is attached to this message. Orders must be placed by April 14th.
Have a wonderful weekend, despite the late snowstorm.
